Sister Cities can be described as a legal or social agreement between two areas, regions, municipalities, towns, etc. that are generally distinct from one another in regards to their geographic and political context. The purpose of this legal and/or social agreement is to promote overall commercial and cultural ties that are based upon the principle of peace.
Besides promoting cultural and commercial ties, sister cities invite along with many other benefits that boost both cities up. These can include but are not limited to: skyrocketing tourism in both cities, improving international business relations, raising human resources, promote the opportunity for cultural exchange, and the possibility for worker exchange.
These face to face meetings and relations that are created are meant to establish stability so that the world in its entirety may flourish.
As of right now, there are over 1,800 cities, states, and counties that are partnering in 138 countries all over the world, each one with their own specific goals and outreach. The main purpose of creating these cities in the first place is to be able to establish stability, diplomacy, and peace through these partnerships and agreements.
